In the last decade, illegal immigration has become a hot topic to the American public and thus an issue for congressional leaders. Research shows that many illegal immigrants cross the southern border and are fleeing Mexico or Central America.
What are the significant challenges faced by the United States regarding border protection or illegal immigration? When it comes to challenges the United States faces in regards to Border Protection and Illegal Immigration, there are significant issues arising. Most of those issues surrounding, securing the border to prevent that unauthorized entry, managing the flow of immigrants that are trying to seek asylum, addressing the human trafficking that occurs, as well as, smuggling activities, enforcing the immigration laws already in place, and balancing national security concerns in regards to humanitarian considerations.
What initiatives is the United States taking to tackle the challenges of border protection or illegal immigration? There are various steps that the United States has taken in order to try and tackle the challenges that are being faced in regards to Border Protection and Illegal Immigrants. Some of those steps being deploying additional personal to patrol the borders, increasing the infrastructure of border security, implementing more policies to deter illegal immigration, utilizing more, newer, technology such as surveillance drowns and sensors. There has also been more enhancement in regards to cooperation with international partners to help address the root
causes of migration, improving the asylum process, and even enforcing the immigration laws through targeted enforcement actions. In addition, the government has explored numerous diplomatic solutions and partnerships to help address the migration flow and promote more regional stability.
Select one of the states on the Southern border and examine the efforts of that state to protect its borders. Are these efforts effective? What are the barriers that these states face in trying to secure their borders? Texas is one of the southern states that has
been actively involved in efforts to try and protect its borders. Texas, as a whole, has implemented numerous initiatives to enhance the border’s security, such as deploying additional Law Enforcement Officers for Patrol, utilizing the newer models of technicality, as presented in the second response, and collaborating with more federal agencies to combat the illegal immigration and smuggling tactics. In regards to the effectiveness of the efforts made; it is argumentative. Some may say that they have helped reduce the numbers of illegals crossing the borders, and criminal activities; there are others who point out the continuous ongoing challenges and gaps n the security measures that exist. Barriers that state like Texas face, include limited resources and funding, more complex legal and jurisdictional issues, geographical challenges; for example, rugged terrains and vast border areas, plus the need for additional coordination with federal authorities and neighboring states. Plus, the barrier of political and public
consideration can also have a huge impact in the implementation and success of border security efforts being made. Article One Takeaways:

Article Four Takeaways:
American Governors’ Border Strike Force: Assist in securing the border with methods including sharing intelligence and strengthening the cybersecurity.
Criminal Activities at Borders are a National Issue.
All four of these articles highlighted some of the Pros and Cons of having Border Walls, one of the many strategies that are being put in place to help with the Border and Immigration issue. I was also able to find some of, the statistics of what goes on at the Border, Texas being a huge targeted state. From analyzing these two articles I was able to conclude that some of the Pros of implementing Border Walls as a strategy are:
Prevent unauthorized entry into a Country
Regulate the flow of immigrants – implementing a more controlled and organized immigration process.
