Written Assignment: Part 1
From being a full time student as well as being a parent working a full time job, there doesn’t ever seem to
be enough time to focus on the little things in life that pass us by so quickly. During a different time, maybe
only a generation away perhaps, there was a belief that the American dream could only be acquired through
hard work and determination. For me being a 23 year old parent and student, I have witness those around
me work their entire lives to support their families and make the best life possible for those we love. None
the less, I feel that it has only become harder for my generation to achieve and acquire the same feats that
our parents and those before them have without adapting a new meaning to what the American dream is to
me. We are living in a society that has everthing at the touch of their figure tips, yet there are those of us are
living paycheck to paycheck stuck in a loop of living to work and working to live lifestyle. Social media has
diluted our mindsets and made us consumers that desire things we don’t need, to bring us a solitary moment
of happiness that is gone the next. Being enticed by these materialistic endeavors, it proved that you could
turning a hobby into another source of income to make ends meet. By reselling sought after and limited
supplied merchandise at upcharge price had become convenient and profitable. Since the epidemic I have
resold various items of value I find in one place and list either online or on consignment and have not had to
fill out a 1099-K due to not exceeding the $20,000 revenue or 200 item-limit set forth by the IRS, but now
that legislation is being pushed to lower that to any sales over $600 will be taxed. (Revell) While this
provision in the American Rescue Plan Act, will increase taxed revenue by the billions in the forth coming

years it will also put the payees in a new tax bracket. (Adams, 44) I fell as these new requirements are an
invasion of privacy, liberty, and unfair taxation.
With government being able to monitor and control how and where our money is going is
not a complete invasion of privacy most would say, but with the rise of crypto currency the IRS is looking to gaps in virtual payments that are not reported. (Johnson-Driscoll, 3) New efforts being made to prevent what is considered tax evasion on the smallest levels will make it difficult to determine just when it is that our Fourth Amendment rights are protected or revoked. With political freedom and privacy going hand in hand, to what extent is it legal for the government to
audit individuals without their knowledge or consent.
Yes, as Americans we feel the need that we should be protected against all threats foreign
and domestic so it is the government that we put our trust into for our security. With the acts of 9/11 the government has made massive budget increases prevent terrorism and other international threats but are unable to prevent random acts of violence in our schools and public gathering places. While we try so dearly to protect the liberties granted to us by the United States, how do we allow some but not total control to monitor movements and actvities on social media that could be deemed dangours to the public. For liberty and justice for all as sated in the pledge of allegeince, when our political system does not allow the same rights and equality to everyone.
Although Texas is one of the few states that do not impose state income taxes upon its people, what could be done at the state level to prevent federal income tax ledgeslative? The Texas constitution has more specific and detailed about what exactly they are refrained from
