Using information from the video, describe American Ideas about
Democracy, Politicians, and voting.
Your response should be about a
paragraph.
Was the birth of modern american political culture, two-party system,
spoils system and political character meaning who we choose to vote for.
Every single person who was president of the US had a college degree.
Many of the founders of the United States worried that we had “too much
democracy”. States had voting laws that restricted only property owners
could vote and some states allowed black men and women to vote if they
owed a property. When they rewrote this law they removed the women
and black men being allowed to vote.

to the following.
Describe two ways that the election of 1824 was unique compared with other
elections.
One of the ways the election of 1824 was that they changed the
regulations and all white men could vote so the amount of people voting
was more than the amount of people allowed to vote in European nations.
The other way that this election was unique was that all three candidates
were from the same political party, one of them won the electoral vote, the
other won the popular vote and the third one was the Speaker of the
House. So the speaker of the house had a say on who would win the
election and it was called the corrupt bargain.
Why might Jackson have expected to win this election and why did he not
win this election?

The new election campaign methods had a positive impact in the
American Democracy by making it easier to participate in the elections, all
white men could vote not only landowners.

1824?
He might have been able to win easily because he won the popular and
electoral votes.
How does the number of candidates impact the results of an election?
The number of candidates had a negative impact on the election because
no candidate was able to receive a majority or more than half of the votes.

“The Tariff Debate”
What was the “spoils system and do you think it was democratic? Explain.
The spoils system was a system where the supporters of the winning
candidate replaced government employees because they were on the
winning side. In my opinion it’s not democratic because they weren’t
elected and people who voted for the presidential candidate might not
want or agree with the people who are replacing other government
employees.
What was the disagreement about Tariffs and how was it related to states’
rights?
Southern states dislike the Tariff because they feared that taxing
Europeans goods might hurt this trade and it meant that the prices would
be higher. It relates to the state rights because the road would be entirely
within Kentucky so it should be a state decision.
How does the political cartoon illustrate the Tariff Issue?
The cartoon relates to the Tariff issue because it shows that the minority of
the people are people who can pay the Tariff and at the bottom we have
the dead people and other people who can pay the Tariffs.

Explain in 2-4 sentences what you think REMOVAL of a people means.
I think that removal of a people means to move people to other places
because they want a land. People who are richer and more well known
have more privileges and were able to enforce an act that would provide
an exchange of lands removing poor people and sending them west where
richer people don’t want to live.
