TOPIC PROPOSAL AND OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONSONS 2 Topic Proposal The research topic of interest is childhood trauma and how it affects adulthood. It is important to understand the psychological, emotional, and behavioral effects that may be caused or enhanced by experiencing childhood trauma. Additionally, raising questions on this topic of how one variable affects the other can shed light on the different severities and variety of how individual people cope with their own experiences (Monfared, J., n.d.). Questions and Hypothesis There are a plethora of questions to be asked in regard to the effects of childhood trauma on adulthood, in addition to hypothesis that may act as a stepping stone to the experiment meant to answer the questions at hand. Is there significant effects on those who experience childhood trauma and how they view personal relationships? If someone has experienced childhood trauma, then there are a plethora of obstacles that may be faced when it comes to personal relationships such as attachment issues, trust issues, low self-esteem, fear of abandonment, intimacy avoidance, and more (Monfared, J., n.d.). Are there physical ailments in adulthood that correspond with unresolved childhood trauma? Pulmonary disorders, kidney disease, stroke, heart, disease, cancer, and obesity are all physical ailments that can be attributed to unresolved childhood trauma (Monfared, J., n.d.). Is there a correlation between childhood trauma and drug and alcohol abuse? Drug and alcohol abuse increases in individuals that have experienced childhood trauma (Rich, Wilson & Robertson, 2016). Are there treatments and/or therapies that can reduce negative effects caused by childhood trauma? There are numerous effective treatments available for people who have experienced childhood trauma, such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapies (SAMHSA, 2023).
