Social Behaviors Shamirah P. Smith Wilmington University PSY 301: Social Psychology Dr. Lynda Cable October 29, 2023
Social behavior is the way people interact with and influence other individuals. The person I have observed this week was my daughter Kehlani. I chose to observe her because I have noticed the difference between her social behavior with her father, myself and her younger brother. Kehlani is a very hyperactive, talkative four-year-old and sometimes has a meltdown when things do not go her way. When Kehlani is around her father she is very calm, attentive, and not as overly hyperactive as she is with me. Her father can get her to do things that I usually cannot get her to do without a reaction such as asking her to pick up her toys and clean up after herself. If I tell her to clean up, she replies as she does not want to or is very aggressive and will go into a tantrum. When her father asks, she cleans up with no problem and no reactions. I never understood why she has many meltdowns with me and not her father. It may be the way I am approaching the situation but even when I switched up my approach, I still receive the same social behavior. I also noticed this week Kehlani is a big influence on her brother and how they interact with each other. Sometimes it is difficult to deal with them both because if Kehlani decides not to listen to me it rubs off on her young brother. Her younger brother does a lot of things that she does such as sometimes behaving the way she does. “ Social behavior   characterizes the interactions that occur among individuals . These can be aggressive, mutualistic, cooperative, altruistic, and parental .” (Rubenstein, 2019)
