The inferotemporal cortex and the medial temporal lobe are both parts of the brain that aid in recalling information. The inferotemporal cortex is in the lower, inferior part of the temporal lobe, and it aids in the brain visually recognizing objects. The medial temporal lobe is in the anterior, middle section of the temporal lobe and it assists in the function of long-term memory (Juola & Koshino, 2022). In cognitive science, connectivism is an attempt to understand intellectual abilities through neural networks. These neural networks are artificially created and are modeled after the brain, and consist of many units that represent neurons. They can be trained to have the ability to mimick several brain functions including reading and facial recognition (Buckner & Garson, 2019). Biederman’s Recognition-by-Components theory was created to explain primal recognition. Primal recognition is rapid and operates without using higher level cognitive processes. This is similar to a basic sketch compared to a finished drawing. The Recognition-by-Components theory asserts that the visual system uses geometrical ions to identify the basic anatomy of an object and stores this information as a description that the visual system can analyze, and recall information about the perceived object that matches the stored description (Kirkpatrick, n.d.).
