1-3 Journal: Reflection I 2 My youngest daughter was born on September 6, 2014, she was a perfect baby from weight to height. With in her first year was relatively normal in terms of behavior and learning from first words, crawling to walking. At the time I thought that her development was on track, especially being in an environment that was not exactly conducive, as I was in an abusive relationship/marriage with her father at the time. I brought her to her 12 months checkup; this is where things started to change. Around the time my daughter turned one year old, I noticed that she had regressed in her speech going from saying mama and al da (all done) to not speaking any words just making sounds. At her 12-month checkup, I brought up my concerns after filling out a questionnaire asking, “Does your child make complete sentences?” I marked “no” as she was not and made a note on the side bar that all kids develop differently. After this was reviewed by her doctor, He referred me to a program where she would be evaluated and work with someone whose purpose was to help her with her Speech development, she was also tested in other areas where they thought there may be a delayed. When we had our first appointment, I had also noticed that she was slow in other skills besides her language development, such as properly grasping finger food and feeding herself, jumping. Since my daughter was under the school age of 3 she was given a speech therapist by the state to work with her once a week to help with her speech. Her father and I split up just a few years ago September 1 st , 2021, with years of planning this and I told her now that her father has moved out open up let everything out to her therapist and she did. My daughter Shea still receives speech as this is on her IEP to this day being now 9 years old (going on 26), she also receives title one services within the school. I received a call from her school asking if they may test her in any other area that may help her with school and
