Case Study Treatment Plan Biopsychosocial Assessment Current Symptoms Reason for Visit Listed as DSM-5 Symptoms: Client reports having anxiety and confusion due to her identifying as bisexual female. She has recently disclosed that she "came out" and many of her friends have disowned her,she has not told her parents about her sexual preference ,and has fear that she will face the same reactions that her peers.According to DSM-5 ,the client is displaying signs of Social Anxiety Disorder; based on the symptoms that Joelle has reported. The client is seeking counseling due to a family member suggested that she sought help with her sexual orientation and her concerns with her social interactions. Demographics Name: Joelle Age: 22 Gender: Female Cultural Background Ethnicity: Clients identifies a an Asian -American female. Religious Affiliation: The client explains that raised Catholic, but is currently not practicing. She believes there is a God, but does not know how to reconcile this belief with her thoughts and feelings about herself. She states that her faith only makes her feel guilt. Sexual Orientation: Client identifies as a bisexual woman. Client reports expressed having mixed emotions about sexual identity and worries about having to "pick a side". Friends have told her that she is just someone that "falls in the middle.
Relevant Cultural Norms: In the Asian community "Specifically, some traditional Asian values such as a huge emphasis on the family as the primary social unit, familial obligations to continue the family line through marriage and the bearing of children, rigid socialized gender roles, belief that homosexuality is a sin, and traditional patriarchal values and socioeconomic system have negatively portrayed being a lesbian bisexual woman as a rejection of the importance of family and Asian cultural values and an identity that can bring shame to one’s family (Sung et al ., 2015) Other Relevant Cultural Norms: N/A Ethical and cultural considerations relevant to client's identified sexual issues: Although Asian American (AA) lesbian and bisexual women (LBW) may share some similarities with White and other racial/ ethnic minority sexual minority persons, their experiences at the intersection of gender and Asian race/ethnicity suggest that AA lesbian bisexual woman’s experiences are unique and thus not directly comparable with these groups(Sung et al.,2015). Family Background Family of Origin Issues: . Client explained that she was raised by both parents ,and has strong relationships with her siblings.The client expresses that the home environment was good. Mom controlled the client and the client did what mom asked to avoid getting into trouble. Dad didn't intervene or give his input on how his wife facilitated the household and Family Environment in Childhood/Adolescence: The client grew up in a two-parent home with her older brother and younger sister. The client expresses that the home environment was good. Mom was the dominant force . Marital/Partnership History: Joelle has reported that she has been in 3 relationships; consisting that 1 man and 2 relationships with women which were in secret. The last relationship, the woman left her due to Joelle wanting to keep their relationship a secret . Children Issues/Concerns: Joelle has no children. Social/Community Background Connections to Community Support (Church, AA Group): Client reports coming from a Catholic background but she is not practicing. She also disclosed being part of a sorority .She is worried that if they find out about her secret, they might kick her out of the sorority.
Support Network: The client has a close relationship with her siblings and her sorority sisters. Joelle has a few gay and lesbian friends. The client has lost friends due to the sharing of her sexual orientation. She expresses the fear of being disowned if she reveals her sexual orientation to her best friend and parents. Joelle's sorority sisters aren't aware of her sexual orientation, and she fears they will remove her from the sorority Hobbies or Volunteer Activities: The client reports that she is engaged in sports at her college. She explained that shes plays both basketball and tennis. She states that she is not involved in many volunteer activities at her college. Personal Background Developmental History: Client explains that has lived away from home for the past three years. She stated she finally had a safe space to be free. She felt she was different for many years but ignored her feelings due to past judgment from friends and family members. Disability: N/A Educational: She is studying environmental sciences . Client reports having good grades and she is on track to graduate in the fall. Military: N/A History of Trauma: N/A Employment Status: Joelle reports having little income and is primarily supported by her parents. She works part-time on campus in the dean's office . Legal Status: N/A Other Circumstances, Such as Transportation, Housing, et cetera: Client reports sharing an apartment with her friends off campus. Medical Background Medical History: Client does not report any medical issues or concerns. She's does report feeling depressed and having trouble connecting with her family and friends due to her sexual orientation. Use of Medication:
