Reflect on the knowledge, based on theories of development, you have learned during this course. Discuss what skills can be developed from having this knowledge. Analyze how knowledge about lifespan development theory can be applied to your goals and career. Evaluate what ethical considerations should be taken when applying these skills. Having the right knowledge on different theories of development can make life much easier. Being able to understand different types of emotions and social or moral development can help me understand individuals better. It can also side in me having a less street up life. Every stage in life consists of different developmental milestones. From the moment the egg reaches the stern, we develop in stages. Our cognitive abilities expand more with age. As infants, we learn the most and what we learn stays with us forever. It is one of the most important stages in our development. Most people that we encounter in life, will leave an impact on our lives, whether it is positive or not. Daycare, babysitters, teachers, parents, friends and family all played a major role in our lives. The way our parents or guardians raise us will impact our lives directly because it can determine how successful we might be in life. Life is all about choices and balance. Being able to choose right from wrong. Being able to understand lifespan development is crucial because it helps us navigate throughout life. Making positive plans can be easier because we can determine possibilities from our habits and activities. This will allow us to become more involved.
Knowing and understand lifespan development makes the transitions from this point more natural to navigate. Planning is much more productive if we know the possible outcomes from the habits we form and the activity with which we allow ourselves to be involved. “We learn to control our emotions while in middle childhood and grow to adults where overall, older adults report more positive and less negative emotions than younger adults. In fact, positive emotions even appear to increase with age during later adulthood” (Shriner B, Shriner, M., 2014). Throughout this class we learned about ethical principles. “Kohlberg’s last stage of moral development involves world-wide ethics, labeled universal ethical principles and is marked by individuals who engage in a moral code of conduct based on universal human rights and not individual laws” (Shriner B, Shriner, M., 2014). I now understand a lot more about the theories of development, I am equipped to navigate feelings throughout my adulthood. I will be able to understand the opinions of others and understand why people react the way they do to certain situations. References: Shriner B, Shriner M. (2014).
