Weekly Journal Template Topic One (One or Two Paragraphs) The first topic I found interesting was Haim Ginott, who stated that truth without compassion can destroy love. I found this to be interesting because as a teacher you cannot rush into proving why a student is wrong and tell them how, where, and why the teacher is right. Instead, it is up to the teacher to approach the student with the idea of compassion and fix the student’s mistakes. We as teachers cannot hurry to correct facts, but instead, show the student how their facts are wrong in a compassionate way. Please explain why you think the concepts would or would not work in your own classroom: This concept would work in my own classroom because I am a believer in teaching a student, but when a student is wrong I want to teach them how to find the correct answer they are searching for. I want to promote independence and critical thinking skills for my students. Topic Two (One or Two Paragraphs) The topic of Operant conditioning I found interesting. It is explained by B.F. Skinner states that where the consequences of a response determine the probability of it being repeated. Basically, B.F Skinner is saying that through operant conditioning behavior is reinforced as in rewarded it will be repeated. If behavior is punished it will often occur less frequently. This topic is extremely important because reinforcers help change a behavior whether it is studying, human behavior, or anything. Please explain why you think the concepts would or would not work in your own classroom: This concept would thrive in my classroom because I am a huge reinforcer when it comes to behaviors and study habits, or school habits. It is important that students know what behavior is acceptable and what is not. It is also important for students to be rewarded for their good habits because sometimes adults do not do that enough for the younger people.
Topic Three (One or Two Paragraphs) This topic was founded by Kounin, who focused on classroom management. Classroom management is a key role in teaching as Kounin found that the reactions of teachers to students affected classroom management in a negative way. He says that there is something a teacher could do to prevent misbehavior in the first place which will lead to more effective classrooms. Teachers needed to have the ability to know what was going on at all times in their classroom, he described this as withitness. Please explain why you think the concepts would or would not work in your own classroom: Kounin’s topic is extremely important because without classroom management no teaching will take place. I will definitely be proactive in my classroom management style because teachers have to be able to have control of their classroom and keep students focused in order to learn. It is as simple as making scans across the room so the students see the teacher being active in their classroom. As a teacher, there are some classes harder to manage than others but that does not make the group unteachable instead it will take the teacher (me) to adjust my classroom management style to fit the class. Classroom management also helps students feel safe, and I want all students to always feel safe in my classroom.
