Erica Adams 09/26/2023 Reflection 1 Prompt #1 In order to address the cognitive differences of my students, I provided them with various activities that catered to their different learning styles. This included the handwriting assignment which allowed students to work on their cursive writing penmanship, journaling which provided students with the opportunity to reflect on their personal lives and experiences while also allowing them to strengthen their writing abilities. Additionally, the dictation assignment in which they had to write sentences using vocabulary words that they were given previously, gave them the opportunity to use their critical thinking skills. Journaling also helped students to practice other forms of communication by allowing them to express their thoughts through writing. The dictation assignment also allows students who may struggle linguistically, work on developing that skill even more. Overall, my understanding of the variance in my students’ growth and development patterns has allowed me to create a learning experience that is inclusive, challenging, and supportive across various domains. By considering these domains, I have been able to design a holistic approach that caters to the unique needs of each learner. Prompt #3 Fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment is always a crucial aspect of how I plan my lesson for the day. To support individual learning, I offered differentiated instruction to cater to students' varying needs and abilities. This involved providing additional resources, offering extra guidance and support, and assigning tasks based on individual strengths. By acknowledging and valuing each student's unique abilities, I aimed to foster a sense of self- motivation and encourage them to take ownership of their learning journey. Furthermore, I created a positive and inclusive classroom environment by promoting open communication and respect. I encouraged students to actively listen to their peers, ask questions, and provide constructive feedback. By emphasizing the importance of respecting different perspectives, students felt comfortable expressing their ideas and opinions, leading to fruitful discussions and enhanced social interaction. In addition, I incorporated opportunities for self- reflection and goal-setting. By encouraging students to set their own learning goals and regularly reflect on their progress, they became more self-aware and motivated to improve. This self- motivation allowed them to take ownership of their learning and actively seek opportunities for growth. Prompt #6 There were ,amy forms of assessment presented in this lesson. For their formative assessment, students were given a dictation quiz as well as a spelling test. These assessments allowed the students to be actively aware of their own progress and take ownership of their learning. There were no summative assessments presented in this particular lesson, however, students will eventually be presented with a mid-semester exam at the end of the nine week grading period

The dictation assignment could also be considered a form of performance-based assessment because it forced the students to come up with ways they would use their vocabulary in every day conversations. Finally, students were able to do self-assessments when they were given the correct answers for both assessments in order to determine how well they performed on them. Prompt #9 One key way I have taken responsibility for student learning is by fostering a collaborative environment where learners are actively engaged in their own educational journey. By encouraging students to take ownership of their learning, I have witnessed increased motivation, enthusiasm, and overall growth. For instance, I have implemented student-led conferences, where students showcase their progress and goals to their families and discuss ways they can continue to improve. This collaborative approach not only empowers students but also strengthens the partnership between families and the school community, resulting in enhanced student success. In addition to collaborating with learners and families, I have actively engaged with colleagues and other school professionals to exchange ideas, share best practices, and collectively address student needs. Through professional learning communities, workshops, and conferences, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with fellow educators, explore innovative teaching strategies, and develop a collective understanding of effective instructional practices. By continuously seeking out these collaborations, I have been able to integrate new approaches and techniques into my lessons, resulting in improved student outcomes.
