Cultural competency applies to all therapists, especially to those of color and those from marginalized groups. (Sue & Sue, 2002, p. 165) Kim et al. (2022) conducted an experimental study to look at the effects of thoughtful implementation of multicultural and social justice counseling competencies on counseling students. Seven two participants who were in their first or second master-level counseling practicum program were selected from a U.S. university to participate in the study. Participants were divided into two groups: control and experimental. The method employed was reflective practice training using two interventions adapted from the cultural auditing process (Kim et al., 2022) Results among both groups revealed that the control group had a higher score than that of the experimental group in multicultural and social justice counseling competencies (MSJCC). In conclusion, the study reveals that it is important that educators train student counselors to be competent in multicultural and social justice counseling so that they can better serve their clients.
