Jayden, a 5-year-old boy, is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). His treatment provider is trying to help him increase eye contact with others. Jayden is only five years old and has been identified as having autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The reason cognitive therapy should be part of his treatment plan is that Jayden and other children with special needs struggle to complete activities. Being his therapist, I build an excellent relationship with him to gain his trust and use positive reinforcement to help Jayden reduce any fear he may be feeling and to help him concentrate on making eye contact with people in his environment. Trina, a 50-year-old woman, is diagnosed with bipolar I disorder. Her treatment provider is trying to help stabilize her mood. Since Trina has been diagnosed with bipolar 1 and is attempting to control her mood swings, I would use her observation to understand a little bit about her personality, as well as her lifestyle and health. Her recommended course of treatment is behavioral therapy. Since I am her treatment provider, I must assist her in balancing her mood because you never know when she might start having bad bipolar mood swings. Desmond, a 22-year-old college student, is diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The treatment provider is trying to help decrease Desmond's overall level of worry. Since college is a high-stress environment for all students, regardless of age, I believe cognitive therapy should be part of Desmond's treatment plan because this will help him avoid episodes of anxiety attacks. In order to be helpful as Desmond's therapist, I must make sure I choose a better treatment plan for him. How does the concept of treatment for psychological disorders apply to any of the following programmatic themes? I have start off with self-care and emotional intelligence , because it is important that we make the time to do the things that will enable us to live well and enhance both our mental and physical health. Self-care can improve our energy levels, reduce our risk of sickness, and help us handle stress when it comes to our mental health. Without emotional intelligence, we could act in ways that are harmful or inappropriate. The guilt and shame that follows can make anxiety and other mental health issues worse.
