Types of memory: explicit and implicit memories Explicit is memories your consciously trying to recall, recollection Implicit memory is the unconscious unintentionally trying to remember/ recalling a story that we didn't tempt to recall e Serial position effect when the graph goes down but back up again you remember the first people you meet at the part and at the end but not in the middle o Primacy the first words you remember hearing or heard o Recency being the last words you heard Three box model or three box memory Three distinct type of memory and each store has 1. Sensory has a large capacity to store memory every one of our senses has memory Our visual sensory has a duration of half of a second 2. Short term memory: also known as working memory different capacity and store of duration, it's about 30 seconds/ capacity 7-+ 2 e One of the ways to extend short term memory is chunking info 3. Long term memory known as permastore Duration: unlimited Capacity: unlimited; from the previous stores make their way through till they reach long term memory if you wanna keep it sensory, keeping it active is short term Different types of long term memory 1. Declarative: knowing what and knowing that Semantic-impaired fact memory and concepts and episodic-things that are specific to you 2. Procedural: knowing how e Spread of Activation :remembering other memories when your trying to remember specific memories e Damping: the piece of info you tried to remember comes back to you when the other pieces of memory you remembered disappear the tip of the tongue phenomenon o Keep memory alive is maintenance rehearsal the rope repetition to maintain the availability of memory the repeating and repeating, good for short term memory o The best way to remember stuff is encoding strategies, maintenance rehearsal, and elaborative rehearsal: linking what i learn this week to last week o Deep process is the third encoding strategy most effective knowing the meaning of something
