Senior Research Seminar April 2,2020 Dr. Wattemaker 1.Yes, there will be a difference between males and females because of teir trauma and how they perceive themselves. Females would have a lower self esteem because of society view of how female should be. I feel as though females would have lower self-esteem because she has absorbed negative messages from her culture/relationships/or trauma. 2.Yes, because it depends of their experiences and trauma it indicates which type of childhood they had. If they had a positive childhood some may have a higher self-esteem because of the positivity they had through childhood, if they had a negative childhood some may have a lower self-esteem. Even though many adults some have higher self-esteem when they had a negative childhood because they just want to look at the positive aspects of life, and some adults have lower esteem when they had a positive childhood because they probably felt everything had to be perfect. 3.I chose questions 1-8 because it shows who would have the most or least self-esteem. (1. When you look at your face in the mirror, how pleased are you?) I feel females would have low self-esteem because usually some females think they are ugly. (2. When you look at your body in the mirror, how pleased are you?) I feel females would have low esteem because of how society perceives woman should have their bodies. (3. How pleased are you with your physical appearance overall?) I feel males and females would have low self-esteem because society way of saying if males do not have muscles and females do not have an hourglass body than they cannot find someone to love them. (4. How smart do you think you are?) I feel females would have a higher self-esteem because they are very confident on how smart they are. (5. How much ability do you think you have to do well in school and academics?) I feel females would have a higher self-esteem because they are groomed to do better in school.
(6. If an employer hired you, how confident are you that you could handle any job you were asked to do?) I feel as though males would high self esteem because they are groomed to work hard and take on any task to help their family. (7. How good of an athlete do you think you are compared to others of your gender?) I feel male would have a higher self-esteem because they are vary confident when it comes to sport especially if it is a sport they know how to play and enjoy to watch . (8. How attractive do you think you are to members of the opposite sex?) I feel females would a lower self-esteem because society ask more of them when it comes to familial roles.
