RON HOWARD Ron Howard is a famous actor, producer, director and screenwriter who has an inspirational life history that has made him one of the most successful on both sides of the camera. 2
CHILDHOOD AND BACKGROUND Ronald William Howard Born March 1, 1954 In: Duncan, Oklahoma Raised by mother and father, both actors 3 Ronny Howard made his first screen debut in Frontier Woman (1955) at the age of 18 months (Britannica, 2023). Appearing on various TV shows until landing the role of Opie Taylor on the Andy Griffith Show in 1960, which ran for 8 years (Britannica, 2023). Also featured in various other hit films before his big film hit with American Graffiti in 1973 (Britannica, 2023). Probably known best for his character of Richie Cunningham on Happy Days which ran until 1980 (Britannica, 2023).
BAUMRIND’S PARENTING STYLES In an interview with Alison Beard (2023), Ron stated that his parents were strict but not harsh (Beard, 2023). They were helicoptering before that was a thing (Beard, 2023). 4
SOCIAL CHALLENGES Ron admits that when he was growing up and, on The Andy Griffith, Show people would call him by his character “Opie” which he found intimidating and reductive (Myers, 2021). Not to mention that the name came with rhymes and taunts that he was a showoff or came from privilege (Myers, 2021). 5
