Running Head: EdSims Simulation Reflection 2 EdSims Simulation Reflection For this activity, I am put in situation of being the principal at Wrotham Middle School for the past four years. I am having a meeting with Mr. Goodall who is a social studies teacher at the school for the past ten years. The school has set a goal for the year to align curriculum and instruction with standards for English language arts. The school wide assessment results showed that approximately 40% of the eighth-grade students are below the proficient reading level. After reviewing grade averages, I notice that Mr. Goodall’s students are getting grades of A or B, but are not receiving proficiency score in the state’s assessment tests. One standard this scenario is based on is promoting instructional practice that is consistent with knowledge of child learning and development (4.3). It is important that instruction matches the goal of achieving higher levels of proficient reading scores. The next standard that is touched on is making sure the teacher is using valid assessments that are consistent with standards of measurement (4.6). In Mr. Goodall’s class the grading of coursework is not aligning with raising students reading levels. In the first scenario, I chose to meet with Mr. Goodall to discuss improving his academic goals for the semester. I believe this was the right choice because the other two options did not really address the situation head on and I think it is important try help the teacher develop by giving them feedback. The second situation I was given the opportunity to have a second meeting with Mr. Goodall who did not really adjust goals to the standard that was desired. I chose to encourage him to work with other teachers to correct his goals. I felt like this was the right decision because the guidance I gave Mr. Goodall did not lead to desired outcomes and I felt that he might benefit from hearing
