For this practice exercise one student administers the relaxation exercise and the other(s) is/are the receivers of the practice. No clinical interventions or probes. A vignette is not needed. Conduct a video recorded practice based on one of the relaxation interventions from the weekly readings and resources. Be sure to explain the role play to your peer/s before you begin and then ask them for feedback on how the role play went at the end. Then discuss together how might the relaxation/calming technique be useful in establishing safety in psychotherapy. Prepare a brief written group reflection on your role play experience and what you learned about establishing safety from the reading and practice. Be sure to demonstrate the following in your role play: Use of a relaxation technique from the TFCBT relaxation techniques (they can be used for adults as well), or the Soles of your feet relaxation practice or a Loving Kindness self and other meditation. The demonstration should take as long as needed. Once the video is completed, edit it and select one 10-15- minute section to upload for grading and for discussion. Select a video section that includes the administration of the relaxation technique and not only the explanations This is a group assignment: Note that it is the group responsibility to submit group assignments on time. Make sure that the work is evenly assigned as much as possible. Only one group member needs to submit the video and the group reflection assignment on behalf of the group. Make sure that one of you does so on time. If you are not submitting on behalf on your group, just post an acknowledgement that the assignment has been submitted and the names of the students in your group so that you can account for your attendance There are several video editing programs which can be used for free online. Upload your edited 20 minute video role play segment to Canvas using the Kaltura Video App for Canvas. If you encounter difficulties in using Kaltura, you may also utilize another file sharing service (e.g., OneDrive, Dropbox) and upload your presentation to that file sharing service, making sure that your links are not password protected. Submit your video and your reflection by Day 7 of Week 7 by clicking on the assignment in Canvas. Week 7 survey class assignment: prepare for week 8 by viewing your selected movie. Please be aware that the movie Exposed has disturbing material related to rape and sexual abuse. It also shows dissociation and other phenomenon related to complex trauma and abuse. It is therefore an important movie in terms of our education. Please plan to watch it with a supportive other. However please practice self- care and if you think you should not see it elect to see Rabbit Hole instead. Rabbit Hole is about loss and grief over the death of a child. So please consider any personal implications of such a loss as well. As you watch the movies consider the following: What was difficult for you and how you worked with and/or coped with this difficulty. Reflect on any diversity-based intersectionality that you noticed? Do you think that any of the characters would be at risk for suicide? Please make sure to reach out for support that you may need.
