2-2 Journal 2 Culture impacts my child by instilling their beliefs, values, and how they see themselves and the world around them. As they begin the journey into adolescence, thinking of Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory of development, each environmental system influences those beliefs, values, views of self, and worldview, which in turn impacts their development (Santrock, 2023). By my child going to a higher-rated school, staying active within our church, having support systems, and myself staying morally sound, they have that good foundation to grow from as they enter adolescence. Also, teaching my child about having mental health awareness and taking care of their overall well-being aids them in any future obstacles they might encounter. I want a healthy mix of individualistic and collectivistic values for my child. *I cannot recall most of my life before around 13 years old due to trauma* To the best of my knowledge, this impact is very different from my own. Of having a period of trauma affecting my memory, I cannot say, culturally, what I entered adolescence in terms of values, beliefs, or views. I feel like it was very individualistic, but my parents were very accepting of other cultures, so I potentially entered adolescence with the same openness yet self- focused outlook. As a child, I was raised in a Western culture, individualistic home with my mom, dad, and older siblings. Both parents worked full-time and slept in different rooms. We all went to public school and expected to work at 16. From what I recall, emotions were not voiced but shown by actions, more prominently the negative ones. Mental health and communication were not strong points. I feel like my development was the most influenced by my home and school environment due to the majority of my time being in one or the other. Social outings were not common.
