Clinical Field Experience D: Incorporating Technology Kayalee Russell Grand Canyon University Professor: Dr. Candy Jenkins June 20, 2022
Incorporating Technology I was unable to secure an online or in-person clinical site. Therefore, I used one of the videos in the Ed puzzle “Characteristics of Living Things” to complete this field experience. With the advent of digital technology, the world is changing at an incredible rate. This movement is not new to the education industry, which has been at the forefront of change with the adoption of new approaches that allow teachers to better promote an active learning environment for their students. While iPads and tablets uncover a new dimension of learning for students, valuable frameworks like the Early Years Learning Framework also effectively benefit from the integration of technology (Fastiggi,2022). The teacher starts the class by welcoming everyone to the lesson, students then wave to say hello to the camera. This shows that students were aware that the lesson is being recorded. The students then participated in short mediation before the lesson. The teacher then asks students if they remembered what was discussed about living and non-living things from the previous lesson. For this lesson, the teacher used a computer monitor to show pictures of various items and have students pronounce the name of each item and determine whether the item is a living or nonliving thing. The teacher also used a paper picture of items as well. Students were also able to demonstrate actions that living things can do such as stand, breath, walk, and run. The lesson was well organized and responded eagerly by yelling the name of each object that was displayed on the monitor. Technology was used in the form of a computer monitor to display some living and non-living objects to students. Another way in which I would incorporate technology more in the lesson is by allowing students to watch a video about living things on the monitor. Students could also search for pictures on the class tablets supervised of living things and print them out and label them.
