2 Argument Against Prenatal Gender Selection In this mini-essay, I will be arguing against prenatal gender selection as it's something I disagree with, and here are the reasons why. It reinforces gender stereotypes: Prenatal gender selection preserves the idea that certain genders are better suited for specific roles in society. This reinforces gender stereotypes and can limit people's opportunities based on their gender. For example, suppose a family selectively chooses to have a male child because they believe males are better suited for leadership positions. In that case, they may discourage their female children from pursuing leadership roles. In the long run, this can lead to a lack of diversity in specific fields and limit the potential for innovation and growth. It can lead to gender-based discrimination: If a family selectively chooses to have a child of a specific gender, they may treat that child differently than they would a child of the opposite gender. This can lead to gender-based discrimination and favoritism within families. It can continue gender imbalance: In some cultures, there is a preference for having male children over female children. Prenatal gender selection can conserve this preference and lead to gender imbalance in society. It can be ethically questionable: Some people argue that selecting a child's gender before they are born is morally questionable because it could be seen as playing God or interfering with nature. It may harm the child: If a family goes through with prenatal gender selection, they may put pressure on the child to conform to gender stereotypes. This can lead to emotional harm and limit the child's personal growth and development. These are just a few of my preferred arguments against prenatal gender selection. Ultimately, It is essential to take into account the possible repercussions of these kinds of decisions before making them.
