Explain the importance of using multiple evidence-based tools (including quantitative, open-ended, and ecologically focused) to assess Claudia. Explain how each complements the other in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the young client’s concerns and situation. Then, describe the use of an ecomap in assessment and explain the different systems you would account for in your assessment of Claudia. Multiple evidence-based tools are essential to assess Claudia because each assessment tool gains a different understanding of Claudia's current needs. Quantitative assessments can be done to assess Trauma, such as the CAFAS, which is the Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale, and the PECFAS, which is the preschool version of the CAFAS for younger children ( CAFAS AND PECFAS, 2024). ACES can also get a measure of the trauma that Claudia has experienced as well as the resiliency factors that will help her overcome the negative experiences of witnessing a mugging (Jeske & Klas, 2016). The BASC-3 would also be a great tool to understand Claudia's behavior concerns and where she needs support. The BASC-3 uses a triangulation method to have three perspectives from the child, parent, and teacher (Reynolds & Kamphaus, 2015). Each assessment complements the others because they build off and validate each other when assessing for behaviors and trauma. Open-ended assessment allows Claudia’s strengths to be identified and can complement quantitative data by focusing on resiliency, which allows for Strength approaches that I use in the field today. Ecomaps are used to discover the child's social environment and identify support systems and the available community resources to support Claudia’s needs. The ecomap will identify the relationships and how those relationships support Claudia’s needs. The different systems that I would account for in the assessment for Claudia would be the family system, which includes her parents. A community system includes resources within the community that can be utilized. Claudia’s school to assess her support at school with the school staff as well as with Claudia's peers. Claudia's cultural system would also be added to the ecomap. Understanding Claudia's culture and beliefs would give an insight into her mental health. The legal system also identifies stressors that impact Claudia's mental health and well-being for fear of being deported (Family Finding Engagement Tools, 2020). References: CAFAS AND PECFAS .
