PSY 201 1-2 Short Paper: Study Questions Prof. Ratonya Bennett-Gibson March 8, 2024 Bev Epp
Expert teachers are not only concentrating on the lesson plan. They want to know about the backgrounds of their students, what levels of learning they are at, and information about the classroom they will be teaching in. They tend to be more flexible with their approach to the students and can adapt to the environment of the classroom. Expert teachers understand how their students respond to various subjects and can adjust their approach to maximize the learning ability of their students. They tend to be more sensitive to the demands of each task and any social context that may be relevant (Bromley, 2022). Expert teachers are more focused on making sure each student learns than following a strict lesson plan. They are devoted to their students. Lev Vygotsky’s theories stress the role of social interaction and its development in cognition. This is also known as the social development theory. “Vygotsky testifies intellectual development curtails social exchanges from directed learning within the zone of proximal development as children and their parents' co-construct realization” (Woolfolk & Usher, 2022). “Central to Vygotsky's theory is the idea that infants develop new social and cognitive skills through interactions with older individuals” (Heberle et al., 2020). Children’s cognitive development is influenced by culture in two ways in Vygotsky’s system. Children acquire most of their thought knowledge through culture. Culture teaches children not only what to think but how to think (Heberle et al., 2020). Each period in child development is associated with a major activity that is dominant in each period. A lot of emphasis is placed on cognitive functions that emerge in the zone of proximal development. Vygotsky believes that educating and learning should lead children's thinking instead of following it. The brain grows when it is stimulated, and many scientists believe that playing games can help the brain connect with other parts of the brain when children are young (Heberle et al., 2020).
