With which motivational theory from Chapter 7 do you most identify? Explain, giving specific examples of how this process or content theory relates to your work/professional experiences. Motivation is defined as an individual’s general willingness or desired reasoning to do something. Motivational Theory sets out to determine what motivates people to achieve a desired outcome. Motivational Theory can be seen pretty much everywhere and anywhere we look; however, it is most commonly seen within the workforce, athletics, and school / education as well. As this unit introduces different motivational theories and factors to us, we were able to see which ones we personally resonated with and saw differ our own behaviors. I can honestly say I have been impacted by all of them in different ways not only within my professional life, but also throughout my education and athletic careers as well. I feel that I identify with all of them for different purposes. Goal orientation motivation works for me with everything from athletics, to work and school as well. Setting goals for myself allows me to have something to work towards with an end date in mind. This gives me time management skills, research, peers, and resources to utilize to achieve my said goal. Another theory that I find works for me is positive reinforcement / praise. This lets me know that the work I am putting in doesn’t go unnoticed, and I can learn if it’s working, or I need to make changes to perform better. The last one I want to mention is benefit / incentive. I believe as humans we are naturally more inclined or willing to do something we might not always want to do if we know it will help us out in some beneficial way later. When we gain something appealing such as for my personal experience’s money, better grades, or more playing time I was more willing or driven to participate in the work process getting to my desired end result.
