PSY 328 7-2 Project Two Strong Woman Personality and the Individual According to the Big Five personality assessment, I work very well with others and am willing to listen to others and be considerate of their feelings. For my current job, I work with adults with various special needs, and I have a child also, niece, and nephew with special needs. I must consider my feelings and abilities when working or talking to either of them because they require more of a thought process and attention. I also need to make sure they feel important and matter despite what others think of them. A group setting in a group setting makes sense because working as a team encourages personal growth, increases job satisfaction, and reduces stress (Shiraev, 2016). I scored high in agreeableness, indicating that I work well with others and am optimistic. I can work with more than one person, be a team player, and be open to listening to other options. Individuals who rank high on this measure tend to appear friendly, cooperative, and compassionate to other individuals and other people’s concerns and problems (Shiraev, 2016). 1
The trait I value in a manager is being open to listening and considering my concerns and ideas without dismissing them; an individual is high in extroversion and agreeableness. These two personality traits mean they are confident to vocalize their options but open to listening to others’ opinions. Personality and Teams I tend to be more positive when working in a group setting because I know the workload will not be left to me. I know that teamwork makes the dream work, and it takes the press off being just one person. Concentrating on a minor task is much easier than completing a significant project yourself and less stressful. I get self-conscious working on a project alone because I feel the result is imperfect and unexpected. Regardless I get stuff done when the tension is on; I just become anxious and talk myself through it step by step, giving it my all. Agreeableness is a strength critical in a team setting. Understanding how others feel and acknowledging their ideas is vital when working as a team, and being optimistic means being confident and self-assured about the things to come and having and is aggressive, positive energy and spontaneous effect on how a team succeeds. A person-situation debate example in a workplace is when the supervisor is absent, and another person takes it upon themselves to take charge of the work setting. This situation is usual because someone thinks they can do better as a manager and will take advantage of it. The person taking charge declares they will do the right thing and be better but often needs to be more professional, creating an unpleasant work environment. I would handle potential conflict with a coworker by meeting with a coworker and the manager; this would allow us to hash out differences and concerns and devise a solution before 2
