DQ1.1 Post#4 Dr. H, thank you for the additional information. When discussing Milgram’s study, there are several biases related to participants. For instance, participants in Milgram’s study were recruited through newspaper advertisements, which led to selection bias, which means participants may not have genuinely represented the general population ( FreeBook: Research Methods , n.d.; Goodwin & Goodwin, 2017). Additionally, individuals who choose to respond to these advertisements and participate in the study might have specific characteristic personality traitor attitudes that influenced their decision to participate in this study; for example, the majority of participants in Milgram’s study were adults, and he avoided using college students in his study (Goodwin & Goodwin, 2017). Selection bias can limit the ability to generalize the finding of Milgram’s study to the broader population ( FreeBook: Research Methods , n.d.). Another bias related to participants in Milgram’s study can be social desirability bias, in which participants may want to ‘look good’ and represent themselves in a socially desirable way rather than providing their genuine thoughts and behaviors ( FreeBook: Research Methods , n.d.). This bias could influence participants’ behavior during the study as they could change their behavior to match what they believed was expected or accepted in the study and affect the result of the study.
