Master of Social Work, Walden University SOCW 6090: Psychopathology & Diagnosis for Social Work Practice Dr. Wilson August 31,2023 Explain how a diagnostic summary differs from a biopsychosocial assessment.
A diagnostic summary aims to obtain information to determine the correct treatment based on the client's initial problem, current mental health status, and diagnostic impression (Coleman Health Services, 2022). The biopsychosocial assessment examines a person's current challenges from a social, biological, and psychological perspective (Andrasik et al., 2015). Diagnostic summaries focus more on the client's diagnosis, whereas biopsychosocial summaries cover a broader range of aspects. Both tools are an excellent resource for any physician. What is the relationship between WHO, ICD, and the  DSM 5-TR ? The World Health Organization (WHO) was charged with managing and revising a classification document known as the "International Classification of Diseases (ICD)," which today is the standard for coding, billing, and tracking mortality and morbidity worldwide (Walden University, 2022). The American Psychiatric Association (APA) created the Diagnostical and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) (which has eight versions); the DSM 5-TR uses ICD-10 coding (Walden University, 2022). WHO, ICD, and the DSM-5-TR all contain important information about mental health disorders. Define culture, race, and ethnicity. A culture is a set of knowledge, experiences, traditions, and norms accrued by a group over generations (Spencer, 2014). Regarding race, people are classified based on physical characteristics, and those groups are assigned social meanings (Spencer, 2014). People's ethnicity describes their language, heritage, religion, and customs in each geographic region (Spencer, 2014). Explain why it is important to consider culture when diagnosing.
