Proposed Study Depression and Anxiety in Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: The Differences in Family Makeup and Its Effect on Lived Experiences This study would be to conduct a multi survey on the three parent groups, i.e., one from a two-person heterosexual couple, one from a two-person homosexual couple, and one from a single parent. To gain access to these specific families, a web questionnaire would be used to identify participants and to study the differences in these populations. I will use a qualitative research design. This approach will make the study somewhat subjective because it will focus on depression and anxiety related to the different family structures and their dynamics, and how they perceive their situations. The research questions will be 1) What is your current relationship status? 2) Do you share responsibility of childcare and decisions with a partner for your child with ASD? 3) How often do you experience a higher level of stress because of the behavior of your child? And 4) Have you been diagnosed with depression or an anxiety disorder? The problem to be addressed is whether these different groups that are faced with the same situation, i.e., a child with ASD, cope in different ways and whether the family dynamic changes how they respond.
