Main Discussion Post: In this article, the researchers examined how the interviewers in the employment process tries to impress the interviewees. The study offers insight and supporting detail to the correlation of impression management behaviors from both the interviewer and interviewees. The purpose statement of this article has signaling words. Signaling words introduces an quote, summary or paraphrase. In this case, the signaling words are "t he aim of the present study is to. ." (Wilhemy et al, 2016). In the article, the researchers stated that this study uses an qualitative approach. In the subsection " Aims of the Present Study ", it is stated that in order to address the empirical and theoretical gaps, three main questions will be answered with the qualitative study. The intent of the study is to create a conceptual model and a taxonomy. In order to do so, they will have to identify and analyze the broad range of intention with the interviewers impression management, behaviors, and outcomes. The study does not specify any details of the participants. No information that includes location, numbers, ages, etc has been giving for this study. The lack of nominal data presented and used in this study contributes to it being an solely qualitative approached study. The purpose statement does not mention the research site. It focuses on the other aspects of the research, such as addressing the problem, the intended outcomes, and the population that are being study. The way the purpose statement is framed is consistent with the problem identified in the research. It is clear about what the intentions of the study are, how they intend on accomplishing the outcomes, and who the participants will be. The given source defines impression management as "specific signals that are deliberately used by researchers" (Wilhelmy et al., 2016). The goal of impression management is to present oneself in a favorable light to influence the perception and judgment of others. This purpose statement of this qualitative study does focus on a single phenomenon which is the phenomenon of impression management. The purpose of the study is to measure the usage of impression management and behaviors from interviewers. The purpose statement of this study specifies how the learning will take place. According to the article, learning will take place by identifying and analyzing the broad range of the possible interviewer's intended impression management, behaviors, and outcomes (Wilhelmy et al., 2016). The language used in the purpose statement is nondirectional and neutral. It does not imply any specific assumptions, expectations or hypotheses to the reader. However, it does state that the researchers aim to point out propositions for further research in the future. Alignment of theory, research, and the purpose often proves that the three components are interconnected and consistent with one another. When these components are aligned in a research study, it means the theory
that is being used relates directly to the problem and the purpose. The alignment of these components are important because it helps frame the design and planning of research as well as offering an understanding and aid in interpretation of researching findings. The title of the article is clear about what the research article is about and when further reading, it is related the problem and purpose of the study. Research and social change are interconnected and can be used to design a study. I believe that research stem from one's personal belief and views and can also be influenced by them as well. Research and social change can relate to one another by influencing positive change in society by researching ways to do so. Views of what needs to be changed within the society can be the ground base for what problem an research addresses and the intended purpose of a research study. References: Babbie, E. (2017).
