Having a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) can impact the family system. Mueller and Moskowitz (2020) suggest that children with ASD exhibit a variety of problem behaviors. Some problem behaviors that ASD children exhibit include aggression, self-injury, tantrums, property destruction, and repetitive behaviors (Mueller & Moskowitz, 2020). These problem behaviors can impact the quality of life of children with ASD and their families (Mueller & Moskowitz, 2020). In addition, these problem behaviors can impact the overall stress level within the home.   As already suggested behavior problems in children with ASD can contribute to family stress and exacerbate parenting stress (Stephenson et al., 2023). Research has suggested that parenting stress is higher in families of children with ASD compared to families of children with chronic medical illness or other psychological disorders (Stephenson et al., 2023). Stephenson found that families who were able to receive resources to support their family had lower stress than families who did not have additional resources (Stephenson et al., 2023). Having access to resources can help families reduce their stress, provide them with more stability, and promote a healthier home environment (Stephenson et al., 2023).   References Mueller, R., & Moskowitz, L.
