ABS 415 WK 2 DIS 1 Emotional intelligence The capacity to recognize, categorize, comprehend, and effectively regulate one's own and other people's emotions is known as emotional intelligence. The ability to properly manage our relationships and ourselves is a sign of emotional intelligence. The ability to recognize and control one's own emotions, passions, and those of others around them is referred to as emotional intelligence (EI). Four dimensions of leadership Task- focused on achieving a collective objective. The pursuit of objectives and the development of communication channels by a leader. To guarantee the greatest results, teamwork is not enough— effective communication is also essential. Social- focused on the needs of each team member individually. In addition to supporting one another and exhibiting empathy, gratitude, and support for each member's contributions to the team both collectively and individually, it involves respecting each individual. Behavior- observes the follower-focused actions that show concern, gratitude, respect, and provide assistance. It involves presenting yourself in a way that enhances your perception of yourself and your role as a team member. External- an endeavor to establish and oversee external relationships. Big Five Personality Dimensions When it comes to openness, the results show that I am more skilled than the average individual at drawing connections between unrelated ideas. Conscientiousness I have faith in my abilities and a desire to get things done. I possess the intelligence, determination, and self-control required for success. Extraversion, as far as being assertive, I do not really like to be the center of attention however, I have no problem taking initiative and leading. Agreeableness, there is no need for pretense or manipulation while interacting with others, thus I am open-minded, real, and candid. lastly, neuroticism, I have a laid-back demeanor and am unafraid. I tend to look at things from many angles, which helps me not become irritated frequently or easily. Advantages Disadvantages
Improved Job Satisfaction Poor self-awareness Increased Performance and Productivity Loss of loyalty/employees quit. Less Conflict struggle with conflict resolution readiness to act on opportunities insensitive to others' feelings. Self-motivation unhealthy workplace environment. Easier adjustments. less time in meaningful interactions with their staff Two specific strategies that can be used to develop EI in the workplace. Self-awareness and empathy are two techniques that help enhance emotional intelligence (EI) in the workplace. Being aware of your feelings and how you respond to events, as well as having the ability to step back and consider things from another person's point of view, are all incredibly helpful techniques in any professional setting. Effective relationships must be based on EI, which promotes mental clarity, honesty, high moral standards, and personal bravery. R.L. Daft (2018). One way that leaders may discover their own blind spots is to get feedback. By using the opinions of individuals at different levels in the workplace, you can learn more about your own blind spots and develop a better understanding of the people you are leading and what they see. By using personality tests and self-reflection, leaders can also detect their blind spots. To improve their EI and personality qualities, they should be receptive to feedback and actively listen to criticism. References Daft, R.L. (2018).
