2 Research Method In order to conduct this study, the quantitative research method will be used. When using quantitative method, it allows for data to be collected in numerical form and that was selected for this study. To conduct this study, questionnaires will be used to collect the data needed. In the methodology, the data will be utilized to evaluate the theory before deciding to accept or reject it. The linked between the variables will be determined using the quasi-experimental method. This method is the closest to the experimental method but there is some differences, the independent variable is not altered and the effect on the dependent variable is recorded. According to Eyisi (2016) existing groups at utilized and the participants are not randomly assigned. Strength and Weakness To make it easier for a researcher to acquire measurable quantitative data, a quantitative research design is created. Quantitative research is defined as data and figures that are gathered and examined. Once the data has been collected, the researchers look for correlation between the variables that is not casual. All the information that was gathered was used to assess the relationship between the variables and to ensure the objectivity of the study. According to Eyisi (2016) the conclusion of the study is what is drawn from the data regardless of the variables interaction with each other. Closed ended questions in the questionnaire or in the survey is a restriction of the quantitative research method. With closed ended questions, that made the individual unable to provide a clarified response. Black (2009) also states that data analysis and interpretation of the findings could be altered if the researcher did not have a further understanding of the concept of statistical analysis. The outcomes of the limited data may not provide the researchers with confidence because the sample size is small (Denscombe, 2010). A way around this would be to use large sample sides.
3 Data-Collection Tools In this study more than one data collection tool will be used, the first will be interviews. When doing assessments, monitoring, and planning, interviews are the most popular instruments. Interviews can be done individually or in groups at one time as well as delivered formally or informally. They can also be done via distant media which is telephone conferencing or video and can be answered by email or letters with written questions. Open-ended questions that are structured or semi-structured may also be available. With structured interviews, they are created to have a number of central questions that typically is given in the same form. Similar to structured interview, semi-structured interview have just a core group of questions but it does allow the researcher to ask follow up questions or change the sequence of the questions (Simister, 2017). The second data collection tools will be surveys and questionnaires. These data tolls are meant to record data and consistently collect groups or organizations and multiple individuals. A questionnaire is a survey that has questions. The questionnaire can also be delivered via internet format or printed document. Questionnaires can be handled many ways. According to Simister (2017), surveys are usually a formal activity. In that case, if a questionnaire is sent via postal service, it will be utilized. Population, Sampling Procedures, and Data Collection In this study, the participants will be incarcerated adult males at the High Point Detention Center in High Point, NC. This is part of the NC Department of Criminal Justice. The questionnaires that are going to be given out are self-administered questionnaires. The participants are all above the age of and will vary in age and race. They also will be informed that their participation is voluntary and will need to sign a consent form. The inmates will have a
