Module One – Discussion PSY560 Hey everyone! I’m Halle (pronounced hay-lee). I currently reside in South Carolina and outside of school, I am a single mom, a volunteer victim advocate, and work for a fashion tech company. I completed my undergrad degree in forensic psychology with a minor in criminal justice and am currently working on my degree in psychology. Eventually, I’d love to work full-time as an advocate or in another area of human rights. I look forward to getting to know all of you during this term! A correlational study is a type of research design that examines the relationships between two or more variables. These kinds of studies are non-experimental, meaning that the experimenter does not manipulate any of the variables. The relationship between variables is called a correlation, hence the name. Correlations can be strong or weak, as well as positive or negative, and sometimes there is no correlation at all. Types of correlation studies can include archival research, surveys, and naturalistic observation (Cherry, 2023). Correlation studies can be important in personality psychology because it can provide information into a potential correlation between personality traits and different behaviors. A plus to utilizing correlation studies would include being able to effectively examine real-world situations. A downfall to correlation studies could be that it is difficult to prove that one variable will change another. There could be a correlation, but it can be difficult to prove because the variable cannot be manipulated (Cherry, 2023). References: Cherry, K. (2023, May 4).
