Destiny Adams November 29,2023 Child Development EDUC-1004-1 Marsha Miller MS. Ed 1. Based on your reading of Chapter 1 in the course text, identify the three developmental domains and describe a specific example of each related to young children. (Note: Use the terminology for the domains from the course text (p.17). Consider whether you believe one domain is more important than either of the others and support your point of view. Write at least one paragraph that explains your thinking. The three domains of human development are biosocial, cognitive, and psychosocial. The biosocial domain includes genetics and find motor skills. In regard to young children this means how the body would develop and how they learn to do small things such as pick up toys. The cognitive domain includes the mental process and how a person is able to use their imagination and have perception. This is important and younger children because it teaches them to adapt to their environment and also to express themselves to imagination. It also helps them learn how to communicate with others and learn. The last
domain psychosocial includes developing emotions and learning social skills. This also includes learning about gender roles, family structures, as well as cultural differences. In other words, this will help the younger children learn about being more sociable and learning about their family. This could mean learning about the culture of their family and basically about themselves. We are learning about these three domains. I don’t believe that any domain is more important than the other. I say this, because the three domains are very beneficial and their own special way. Although they are equally important, I do believe that some people could maybe work on certain parts more than others. For instance, I will probably need to work on my psychosocial domain more and learn about my family. And while I need to work on that domain, I do believe I thrive in the biosocial as well as the cognitive part of my development. It is important for children to equally possess and learn about these three different domains that will help them Thrive when they become older. They will be able to learn about their genetics, their preferred way of learning, and also gain some emotional skills.
2. The course text describes the importance of including all people when studying development and state that this may combat the “difference-equals-deficit error, which is the assumption that people unlike us (difference) are inferior (deficit). . ..” (p. 15). The author terms this the difference-equals-deficit error. In your own words describe what this means and provide one example of this type of error. The difference equals deficit error to me, means that no other ethnic group, culture, or race is superior to the next. I do believe that no matter the race or your ethnicity, that everyone should be open and understanding when it comes to witnessing or learning about another one’s culture. I do believe that this is something that should be focused on, especially in younger children because as they grow, they will be more accustomed to learning that no one is better than the other. . For example, growing up as a Christian in the church, we were pretty much persuaded or taught that any other religion except Christianity was unreal. now that I am older, and I know better, I realize that everyone has different beliefs. Me being a Christian, doesn’t make me any better than someone who is Muslim, or someone who practices Buddhism. It is perfectly fine for people to practice whatever faith, they
