The Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) claims that the processes change within the social interaction network while employees interact with each other and with the environment around them. SCT accentuates the importance of experiential learning as employees’ actions depend on their previous experiences and expectations formed by them. Therefore, knowledge about professional experiences of workers allows predicting how they would behave and modify their reaction using social interaction (Schunk & DiBenedetto, 2020) Kurt Lewin’s management theory consists of three steps that the author described as “Unfreeze- Change-Freeze” stages According to Lewin, the first step in the process of changing behavior is to unfreeze the existing situation or status quo. The status quo is considered the equilibrium state. Unfreezing is necessary to overcome the strains of individual resistance and group conformity. Lewin’s second step in the process of changing behavior is movement. In this step, it is necessary to move the target system to a new level of equilibrium. The third step of Lewin’s three-step change model is refreezing. This step needs to take place after the change has been implemented for it to be sustained or “stick” over time (Burnes, 2020). It is high likely that the change will be short lived, and the employees will revert to their old equilibrium (behaviors) if this step is not taken. My preceptor and I chose Lewin’s change theory. She informed of the effectiveness of the theory from previous application in reinforcing infection prevention protocols. My preceptor noted the theory was effective in getting nurses to incorporate a checklist and elements of the catheter- associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) prevention checklist. This theory can be used to improve compliance in patients in my change project. The practice can assist build and reinforce compliance. References Burnes, B. (2020).
