Human Development Worksheet Using the Human Development Case Studies media piece, select one of the case studies to analyze. In the worksheet, you will be assessed on the following: Describe a life stage based on a developmental theory. Summarize developmental theories and apply them to a case. Apply findings from scholarly research to a case. Communicate clearly with appropriate purpose, organization, tone, and sentence structure. Cite sources using author and year in the body of the work and provide a reference for each source Instructions: Follow the instructions. The boxes in the table are for you to provide the information in answer to the prompts. As you type, the boxes will stretch to accommodate your typing as you go. You will need space to work on applying theory and research to the case. Case Name the person in the case study and describe in your own words their current situation. Explain the stage of life the person is in according to the theories you selected. Prompt Description Name: Emilio Current Situation: Recently graduated high schooler Emilio is at a crossroads, uncertain of how to take the next steps towards independence. Previously interested in continuing his education, he now feels overwhelmed and anxious at the prospect, feeling the pressure of leaving his peers behind. His distress has manifested in outbursts. Stage of Life: Adolescence (2019, Armstrong) Theory Explain the theories you selected to apply to the case. Once you explain the theory in general, provide details about the stage for the person in the case you selected. Explain how the theory helps to understand their development and their situation. Prompt Description Selected Theories: Humanistic Stage Details: Examining Emilio holistically, his worries and aspirations, his feelings 1
Prompt Description of belonging, the act of leaving his friends has been a major source of stress for him. They have had a major influence on him, his actions, and his development, providing him with the self-esteem and security he has needed to transition from the teenage years into adulthood, leading to a strong emotional attachment to them. How theory helps the understanding of development: Emilio's motivation to progress and reduce his stress will lead him through Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, which is represented by a pyramid. The base of the pyramid is made up of the most essential needs, while the apex is self-actualization and transcendence. According to the Humanistic Perspective, individuals must fulfill their basic needs before they can be motivated to pursue more higher-level goals. (Maslow, 1954) Research Provide professional and scholarly information to support your thinking in the case. Explain what the professional or researcher says. Explain how this information relates to the case, such as the person’s life stage and the problems they are facing Prompt Description What the professional information or research says: The humanistic approach has formulated a concept of inadequate progression, based on inconsistencies between one's sense of self and experiences. This is thought to lead to struggles with self-esteem, psychological well-being, and an inability to dive deeply into one's self. How this information relates to the case: Self-esteem is linked to many controlled characteristics. Finances communication styles. (Finan, 2018) References Place your references in alphabetical order and in APA format. Use one line for each reference. You will need at least three resources - at least one source to explain the theory, and at least two with professional information and research. You may have more than three: add more rows as needed. Reference Number Reference Reference 1 Finan, L. J., Ohannessian, C. M., & Gordon, M. S. (2018). Trajectories of depressive symptoms from adolescence to emerging adulthood: The influence of parents, peers, and siblings . Developmental Psychology, 54 (8), 1555-1567. 2
