Keller 2 This week, I researched different domestic violence treatment modalities. While doing this, I looked at both victim treatment and perpetrator treatment. I found mentions of ethnicity-specific or culturally specific treatments within this week’s reading The Effectiveness of Culturally Specific Male Domestic Violence Offender Intervention Programs on Behavior Changes and Mental Health: A Systematic Review . The aim of this review was to “cohesively examine whether such programs are effective in reducing recidivism, changing perpetrator behavior, and addressing mental health issues for culturally diverse groups” ( Satyen et al., 2022 ). The findings of this review revealed that “ through culturally trained facilitators, addressing the cultural and patriarchal norms relevant to the specific client group, and discussion of gender roles and attitudes to gender equality specific to the cultural context. Such programs achieved some positive outcomes including reduced recidivism, improved mental health, and better attitudes to gender equality” (Satyen et al., 2022). Although this information seems promising and like it would help make a positive difference for not only the perpetrators but to help alleviate some of the domestic abuse at their hands, this unfortunately would not be the case for most situations due to the limitedness of these findings to only a few ethnically diverse groups. I found some analyses of different types of abuse being treated in different ways as well as the different roles that forensic psychologists may play in these cases. For example, there are different ways that abuse such as child abuse/abduction, elder abuse/neglect, and intimate partner/family violence are treated or approached as stated in Introduction to Forensic Psychology . Another example of this is that different types of risk assessment tools are utilized such as the Domestic Violence Risk Appraisal Guide (DVRAG) or Spousal Assault Risk Assessment (SARA) based on the specific circumstances of the abuse and who is
