P S Y 6 2 2 - A S S E S S M E N T F O R F O R E N S I C P S Y C H O L O G Y on Insanity, Psychopathy and Offender Risk Assessment 4-2 Milestone II – Case Scenario 2 – Johnny B. Sue Ann Staton May 14, 2023
Offender Risk Assessment – Johnny B. The purpose of this assessment report is to determine Johnny B’s criminal risk potential as well as the recommended treatment plan. Therapeutic Risk Typologies will be incorporated into the psycho-logical assessment and diagnostic consultation to uncover any significant risk ratings. Other assessment tools to be utilized in the evaluation are the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI-3), the Inventory of Offender Risk, Needs & Strengths (IORNS), and the Spousal Assault Risk Assessment Guide (SARA). Parole is counting on this mental health evaluation to set forth the conditions of his release. This decision will include the perimeters of his visitation rights with his estranged son, Albert, who was injured during a domestic violence incident with his ex-girlfriend, Jamie. This encounter led to a felony conviction for aggravated kidnapping, after a history of misdemeanor domestic violence convictions in 2000 and 2002. The courts ordered the assessment on July 7, 2003, and it must be completed for court on July 21, 2003. Evaluation of Psychometrics Trial judges use the Daubert Test to determine if an expert witness is supported by reliable, scientific evidence. For the Daubert Standard to be upheld, there are four criterions that must be met by the expert witness. use theoretically and psychometrically adequate data-gathering instruments draw conclusions using scientifically validated theoretical concepts weigh and qualify based on the adequacy of theory and empirical reason defend the scientific status of the data-gathering methods used during observation This technique enables us to draw a conclusion by careful examination of the data gathered through the various assessment tools. Through theoretical considerations and empirical research, a determination was made on suitable visitation rights for Johnny B (Ackerman, 2010). Johnny B. was given the MMPI, which consists of 567 true/false questions that enabled the
decision-makers in this case to determine whether he was suffering from a mental illness or a personality disorder. This widely used tool consists of numerous validity indicators to detect lying, defensiveness and other negative traits (Chandler, 2016). The IORNS assessment scales are often used in family cases involving criminal acts, because it can reveal psychopathy, recklessness, aggressive behavior, hostility, irresponsibility and more (Matkowski et al. 2011). Evaluation of Interview Data Mr. B's present-day psychological condition assessment has shown that his affect and mood was in normal limits, without any suicidal or homicidal thoughts or plans. His cognitive performance was also in normal range, without reports of psychotic indicators. During the interview , h e stated that in the past seven years, he had only committed minor violations of state prison regulations (tobacco possession ). During his assessment, he told the assessor how hard he worked in prison making clothes and going to school. In fact, he talked about completing his degree while in prison, avoiding associations with other inmates whose problems ensued, and purposefully restricting social relations. He stayed to himself and established long-term goals. Evaluation of Collateral Data It is widely known that the odds are stacked against him for ending up a repeat offender. Johnny B is determined not to go back, statistics show that almost 80% will be re-arrested within a couple of years. Johnny B claims to be immensely remorseful about the total raw score of 50 with few factors that were concerning to his future behavior. The results of the SA-45 showed that Johnny B is psycho- socially functioning, and his scores were quite favorable. If he had not gone to prison, he could have potentially fallen into Tragic Hero theme as his child got as a way to deal with his child and his own insecurities about his self-worth. Recommendation
