6-2 Journal: Personality Tests 2 Usefulness of Knowing Results from IPIP-NEO The IPIP-NEO is a personality test that assesses one’s personality according to the Big- Five Personality Model of Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism and Openness. I think it can be extremely beneficial to know the results of this type of personality test because having such information can give someone helpful insight into who they are at the core of their personality. Results could not only help someone gain a better understanding of themselves, but they could also serve as a useful tool to inform treatment. In knowing their personality type and who they are at the core of their being, people can learn better ways to communicate in different situations such as work, school, and social life. It can also help them gain a better understanding of others. It can help to identify someone’s likes and dislikes and to recognize their strengths and weaknesses. Through gaining a better understanding of themself and others, people may be able to enjoy healthier relationships and acknowledge and appreciate their individual learning style, as well as motivate them to pursue their passions in life. Agree With Results I was not surprised by the results I received on this test. I took the short version, which consisted of 120 questions and for the most part I agree with my results. Although I used to tell people I was an extravert, my test results showed that I am not in fact extroverted. To be honest, this was no surprise to me because I have always had the tendency to avoid large groups of people. Even as a child, I always hated sleepovers and when I was younger and first went away to college, I would come home every weekend and stay at home all day, usually just hanging out in my room in the peace and quiet. I now realize that being an introvert doesn’t necessarily mean being painfully shy-but rather I feel more energized by being alone than with other people. I do enjoy spending some time with others, but I must have some down time to regroup and recharge.
