SOCW 6200- HUMAN BEHAVIOR WK 3 DISCUSSION Describe two potential risks of Juan and Elena Hernandez's disciplinary style on the psychological development of their children.       The disciplinary style of Juan and Elena plays a crucial role in the psychological development of Alberto and Juan Jr. Several potential risks are associated with an ineffective punitive approach, which may negatively impact the child's growth and well-being. The children may experience several significant risks, including behavioral difficulties and low self-esteem. Behavioral challenges can manifest in various forms, such as aggression, defiance, disobedience, and impulsivity. Children exposed to harsh disciplinary styles are more likely to develop behavioral problems, which can lead to conflicts with peers and authority figures, decreased social skills, and poor academic performance. Identify one theoretical perspective (e.g., Piaget or Erikson) that can be used to explain the children's developmental stage. How does this theory apply to the Hernandez children and the potential impact of the parents' disciplinary style?       An appropriate theoretical perspective to describe the developmental stage of Juan Jr. and Alberto is the industry vs Inferiority stage. During this stage, children develop a sense of competence and take pride in their accomplishments. Social interactions with peers and academic challenges can cause a child to feel superior or inferior (Walden University, LLC., 2021). However, if their parents restrict it, they may develop a sense of inferiority if they experience failure, doubt their abilities, or receive limited encouragement and may not reach their potential. Therefore, it is crucial at this stage to ensure that Juan Jr. and Alberto receive positive reinforcement and support to develop a sense of industry and self-confidence.
