Anti Marijuana Campaign Medlin Angel Mamulu Capella University Psych -FPX1000 Elizabeth Culhane April 2023
Behavioral theory suggests that human behavior is learned through interaction with the environment, and these behaviors can be modified through reinforcement, punishment, and observation. The identified problem in this scenario is the use of marijuana by teenagers. The proposal is to develop an awareness campaign that highlights the harmful effects of marijuana on physical and mental health and provides alternatives to marijuana use. The behavioral theory proposes that behavior is shaped by environmental factors, such as reinforcement, punishment, and observation. In the context of preventing marijuana use among teenagers, this theory can be applied by using positive reinforcement, such as rewarding teenagers for abstaining from marijuana, and negative reinforcement, such as providing consequences for marijuana use. The theory can also be used to develop an awareness campaign that uses peer modeling, where teenagers observe the behaviors of their peers who abstain from marijuana.
Research suggests that social mediation plays an essential role in adolescent substance prevention (Crano et al., 2017). An awareness campaign that emphasizes the social norms of abstaining from marijuana use has a significant impact on reducing the intention to use marijuana (Alvaro et al., 2013). The findings suggest that campaigns that emphasize the social norms of abstaining from marijuana use can be effective in preventing teenagers from using marijuana . The proposed solution can positively impact mental health and well-being by promoting healthy behavior changes among teenagers. Abstaining from marijuana use can improve cognitive function, reduce the risk of mental health disorders, and prevent addiction. The awareness campaign can also provide alternatives to marijuana use, such as engaging in physical activities and developing healthy coping mechanisms. These alternatives can promote mental health and well-being among teenagers by reducing stress and improving mood. In conclusion, developing an awareness campaign that emphasizes the harmful effects of marijuana use and provides alternatives can be an effective solution to prevent teenagers from using marijuana. The behavioral theory can be applied by using positive and negative reinforcement and peer modeling to shape behavior. Research suggests that campaigns that
