2 Needs This week, we were asked to list the three needs that we now feel are most pressing. Currently, my primary needs revolve around the desire for order, companionship, and growth. The needs are predominantly psychological. Psychological requirements have a crucial role in maintaining psychological well-being and subjective satisfaction (Deckers, et al., 2022). These needs are not inherently biological, although certain acts required to satisfy them may involve physical aspects. For instance, establishing regular physical routines and diligently adhering to punctuality aids in satisfying my essential need for order. The needs I have presented have not only been constant for me throughout this year, but their severity and importance have also significantly increased over the course of this year. At the age of 30, my desire for inner tranquility and serenity has grown. Additionally, I am currently involved in a long-distance relationship, which has intensified my want for companionship. Given my current age, I am eager to expand my family and advance in my field, making growth a top priority for me at this time as well.  Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs comprises the following categories: physiology, safety, belongingness, esteem, and self-actualization (Deckers, et al., 2022). According to his theory, needs must be fulfilled starting from the lowest tier, encompassing basic physiological requirements such as food, water, and shelter, and progressing to the highest tier, which encompasses more psychological needs such as love, friendship, and self-esteem (Cherry, et al., 2022). According to Maslow's original hierarchy, I find that his classification of essential needs does not adequately reflect what is currently of utmost importance to me. For instance, according to Maslow's Hierarchy, basic essential needs are given high priority. However, in my present
3 situation, my primary focus is on fulfilling my emotional needs, attaining inner peace, and cultivating deeper relationships, which are not regarded as significant by Maslow. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), your self-worth is your evaluation of yourself as a capable and valuable human being deserving of consideration and respect. It is an internal sense of being worthy of love. People with positive self-worth tend to have greater self-confidence and self-esteem (Gupta, et al., 2023). That accurately characterizes me. I possess a strong sense of self-worth and firmly think that I am deserving of both love and happiness. I attribute my self-worth primarily to my childhood experiences of low self-esteem. When I was little, I had major self-esteem difficulties being a darker skinned girl and never felt worthy of love and acceptance. Both my mother and sister had a light complexion, which made me feel like I didn't belong. I underwent personal growth and acquired the necessary skills to develop self-acceptance. This, in my opinion, helped me to finally have a high sense of self- worth and to love myself without conditions, making up for all the years I felt unworthy. Self-determination theory is predicated on the notion that individuals possess both capacity and freedom of choice (Deckers, et al., 2022). This theory posits that an individual's well-being is contingent upon the fulfillment of their autonomy, competence, and relatedness needs (Deckers, et al., 2022). Autonomy pertains to an individual's volition to independently take action, competence involves experiencing a sense of capability and achievement in managing one's social and physical surroundings, and relatedness encompasses the want to establish connections and receive care from others (Cherry, et al., 2022). At this moment, my best friend is making an effort to end a detrimental four-year relationship, and I am convinced that self-determination theory is significantly influencing her decision- making process. Self-determination theory is predicated on the initial premise that individuals
