Instructions:  Reflecting on the patterns of adolescent development described in the readings, how much did your adolescent peer group follow the developmental patterns you studied?  What aspect of adolescent development do you think is the most challenging for today's adolescents and why?  Be sure to support your writing with references/resources.  Simply giving an opinion is not sufficient. Hello all, When it comes to my adolescent peer group, I have my doubts about whether or not they followed the usual growth pathways. In my own personal experience, I have found that both myself and my friends have demonstrated lesser levels of emotional intensity and have shown less concern regarding issues such as identity and body image. Participating in sports and playing video games were the two activities that we enjoyed doing the most. When we were in the early phases of adolescence, our attention and focus were not geared toward developing an attraction to people of the opposite sex. We were conscious of the possibility that we would develop affections for a person of the opposite gender; yet, we were unknown about the right manner in which to speak with them or behave when we were in their presence. Within the context of modern adolescent development, the process of physical maturation is, in my view, the most challenging aspect of this growing period. When a person is in their teenage years, they often experience a period of rapid growth in both their height and their weight, which is frequently referred to as a growth spurt. Adolescent development describes puberty as the phase of development that is marked by the maturation of sexual organs (Adolescent Development, n.d.) . Puberty is a process that occurs simultaneously with adolescence. Experiencing feelings of
excitement, terror, and/or perplexity can be a result of the rapid shifts that occur within the body. Both early maturation and delayed maturation can produce additional stress for adolescents because of the impression of being different from one another. Some adolescents may have early maturation, while others may suffer delayed maturation. As a result of the fact that adolescence is the culmination of the developmental phase during which people have a strong urge to conform and be accepted by their peers, this can be an especially difficult experience for adolescents (Adolescent Development, n.d.) . -Chrys References Adolescent Development .
