Theory Comparison Assignment Purpose : The purpose of this assignment is to explore the main tenets, strengths and weaknesses, and contributions to the field of psychology of the various approaches/therapies related to abnormal behavior. Instructions : For this assignment compare and contrast two theories/models for abnormal behavior from the following list: ● Biological Approach ● Behavioral Approach ● Cognitive Approach ● Psychodynamic Approach ● Humanistic Approach ● Family Systems Approach ● Dialectical Behavior Therapy ● Acceptance Commitment Therapy ● Any other option must be pre-approved by your instructor In your assignment, include the following: ● Briefly summarize each of the theories/models selected, including key theorists or researchers related to the theory and the main points and major ideas central to the selected theories/models. ● Compare and contrast both the similarities and differences of the two theories/models relative to how they explain abnormal behavior. ● Examine the strengths and weaknesses for each theory/model relative to how they explain abnormal behavior. ● Discuss how those theories/models have contributed to the field of psychology. ● Finally, note which theory best describes the reasons for abnormal behavior and support your rationale. You have some flexibility in terms of how to format this assignment. Choose one of the following options: ● APA formatted essay ● PowerPoint presentation ● Video recording of yourself discussing each bullet pointed element above. ● Audio recording of yourself discussing each bullet pointed element above. ● Prezi or other online presentation option. If choosing a presentation format, include applicable images, graphics, charts, embedded videos, and links to resources that enhance the delivery of a PowerPoint, Prezi.
Include at least three peer reviewed sources (one can be the course text) for your assignment. APA formatted in-text citations and end of assignment references are required.
