What do neuroscience, positive psychology, and organizational development have in common, and how can those in leadership roles utilize these three disciplines to effect positive change in organizations? Class, Organizational development, positive psychology, and neuroscience are all concepts that focus on developing people’s strengths to ensure success. Organizational development is based on focusing on the problems within an organization in order to rectify them and improve the overall functionality of an organization. Positive psychology is heavily focused on harping on an individual’s strengths in order to help an individual build purpose and meaning. Neuroscience is the study of the brain the enhances an individual’s ability to understand the way their brain works. Individuals in leadership roles can utilize these concepts to leverage people’s strongest abilities and behaviors to help themselves and their organization excel. Understanding where employees need to be placed when configuring teams who needs to be placed together to get the best output. It also allows a leader to understand what triggers employees and how to get different levels of commitment from them. This also allows for “leaders to behave in harmony with how the brain works, improving the way they motivate and communicate their employees” (Pace,2012). Being able to do this allows for leaders to not only be able to open conversations for change in a better environment but also emotionally connect them to the change easier. -T.K.
