Reflective Essay Esther Aaron T. Hamer OBST515: Old Testament Orientation I (B05) March 3, 2024
1 The significance of timing, place, and choice in Esther’s story is crucial in understanding how God’s redemptive mission unfolded through her. Esther found herself uniquely positioned as the queen of Persia when her people, the Hebrews, faced imminent destruction. The timing of her rise to power was not a coincidence but rather orchestrated by the Lord for a specific purpose. The place where Esther found herself was also significant. It was where she hid her identity as a Hebrew woman, allowing her to navigate the complex political landscape and ultimately use her influence to save her people. Esther’s choice to risk her own life by approaching the king uninvited was a moment of courage and faith that changed the course of history for the Hebrews. In Esther 4:14, Mordecai’s words to Esther highlight the importance of her presence in the kingdom at that time. He suggests that perhaps her position as queen was a divine appointment, and the Lord had placed her there "for such a time as this" to stand up against injustice and use one's position and influence for the greater good. This verse underscores the idea that Esther’s circumstances were all part of the Lord's more fantastic plan to bring about redemption for His people. The significance of timing, place, and choices I make supporting the Lord's mission cannot be understated. I am called to serve the Lord and those around me because this broken world constantly attacks Christianity. My daily choices can impact the Lord’s redemptive mission. The timing of events, where I find myself, and my choices in life play a role in how I can help bring people to the Holy Spirit’s strength and seek redemption. In a world where Christians are under attack, I must be willing to stand with them and protect them. I must be willing to make bold choices that align with the Lord’s mission of love, justice, and reconciliation.
