Amanda Rodeback REL 275C Brother Wahlquist June 5, 2021 Midterm: Case Study Questions: - How can we have agency but also be told what to do within the commandments? - Why are ordinances necessary such as baptism if God loves him and wants all of us to live with him again? Doctrines: - 2 Nephi 2 – Adam and Eve and Agency - 3 Nephi 11 – Baptism - Mosiah 13 – 10 Commandments Response: - Agency is to choose and act upon ourselves and without it we would not be able to learn or progress in life. In 2 Nephi 2:27 it says, “Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, thorough the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.” God gave us the 10 commandments because they are principles that are necessary to our exaltation. In Mosiah 12:33-34 it says, “33 But now Abinadi said unto them: I know if ye keep the commandments which the Lord delivered unto Moses in the mount of Sinai, saying: 34 I am the Lord thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.” The 10 commandments is part of the guided path that we have so we can live with our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ again. - All though not all ordinances are necessary to exaltation, baptism and confirmation are a couple that are essential to our exaltation. Baptism and agency go together. You have to make the choice to follow God’s plan and accept Him into your life. In 3 Nephi 11:33-34 it reads, “33 And whoso believeth in me, and is baptized, the same shall be saved; and they are they who shall inherit the kingdom of God. 34 And whoso believeth not in me, and is not baptized, shall be damned.” He want’s all of us to live with him again but we have to make choices that will lead us to him because he can’t do all of it on his own. Ordinances remind us of who we are and when we honor them, he strengthens our spirits.
