1 Session 1 Old Testament Story Board Teresa Diaz Colorado Christian University BIB-101A-35006-FA23-Old Testament Introduction Darrell Morgan November 19, 2023
2 Session 1 Old Testament Story Board Part 1: After reading Genesis 1-3, list out the ways these chapters introduce the biblical narrative for the following categories. For each category, the student should include several robust sentences that are focused on the text. One-word or sparse answers will not suffice. What do we learn about: God : God is all powerful. God created all things living and non-living by speaking them into existence in just six days' time. We also learn that everything that God created was good in the beginning, before sin entered the world. God is all powerful above and below and in the world (Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016). That is amazing when you think about how he is always around us. Humans : As stated by Wright in the book seven sentences,” We were created to exercise the delegated kinship of God within creation.”( Wright 2019 ch1 pg 20) We also see that Humans were created in Gods image, male from the dust of the ground and female from the rib of man, made to come to life by God breathing air into the humans (Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016). This to me is so fascinating, and awesome, to think not only did he create us in his image, but our very being is from his breath in us. How humans interact : Humans' interaction with God and each other was innocent and without shame until they ate the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden. After that, their interaction was that of embarrassment and shame at their eyes being open to good and evil (Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016). When I read this I couldn't help and wonder what exactly went through their heads at the moment their eyes were opened, they ran and hid. Yes, because
3 they were naked, but then did that mean that they were filled with lust? Repulse for their bodies? Something I pondered. The world: The world was a void until God spoke everything thing into creation from the earth to the skies and all living and non-living things on the earth and in the sky. God did this in only six days (Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016). It amazes me how, in such a short amount of time, God made such beauty. “The whole universe, including planet earth, is God's property”(Wright 2019 ch1 pg 18) God lets us live here by his love and grace. The way creation reacts with the Creator : All creation was made by God. He spoke it all into existence, by saying let there be light, darkness, water creatures above and below, and they came to be. He made male, and females in his image,to walk in the Garden of Eden with him. We see in the beginning they listened to his authority and walked with him without shame, then after they disobeyed him they hid in shame, (Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016). Humans rebelled against God in the garden of Eden and still rebel against God today. The problem of sin : The problem of sin is that it separates us from God after Adam and Eve ate of the tree of knowledge from their first reaction was to run and hide from God, the second was to place blame.I also read that along with sin comes pain, heartache and selfishness (Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016). As Wright wrote”When humanity rebels against God,the rest of the created order suffers the effects”.(Wright 2019 Ch1 Pg 26) The solution for sin : At the time of Adam and Eve, the immediate solution was to clothe them and kick them out of the garden, so they would not eat of the tree of life, so that they would not live in sin forever but instead die in time (Holy Bible English Standard Version 2001/2016).
