BIBL 104 Name: Sabrina Miller B IBLE S TUDY P ROJECT : C ORRELATION T EMPLATE Passage: Acts 19:11-22 A. How does this passage from Acts fit within the metanarrative of the Bible? State what type of story you believe this to be (creation, fall, redemption, or new creation) and explain why you believe this to be so? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. It may be good to review chapter 6 in Everyday Bible Study to recall what each of these four themes are about. I believe in this passage from Acts that redemption fits within the metanarrative of the Bible in a significant manner. Firstly, it demonstrates God's influence and authority working through Paul, and his ability to perform these unusual miracles for the benefit of the believers. Likewise, through the story of the sons of Sceva, we see a complete contrast between those who have a genuine relationship with Jesus and those who attempt to misuse His name for personal gain or power. This passage is especially relevant as a story of redemption because the people witnessing these events were inspired by God's sovereignty displayed through Paul's miracles and the humiliation of those who misused Jesus' name. It led many to confess their sinful practices, such as those practicing sorcery who subsequently burn their incantation books. This action symbolized their new commitment to turn away from darkness and embrace the light provided by Jesus Christ. Additionally, this story provides an insightful example of true faith and devotion through redemption. The narrative highlights how genuine connection with God cannot be built on empty incantations or superficial understanding but should instead be based on a deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ. B. How does your theological principle from Acts 19:11-22 fit with the rest of the Scripture? This principle is the one you have written out in 1-3 sentences in the Interpretation Assignment. If your theological principle is a true Biblical principle, it will be reflected throughout the Scriptures. Where is the theological principle discovered in this New Testament narrative found elsewhere in the Scriptures? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. Be specific. Give, explain, and cite your supporting passage(s) from Scripture. In Acts, it is evident that my theological principle that God's power cannot be harnessed or manipulated by those who lack genuine faith and relationship with Him . This principle aligns with a lot of Scripture, emphasizing that God's power is reserved for His true followers who act in accordance with His will. In the New Testament, besides Acts, we can observe a similar example in Matthew 7:21-23. Here, Jesus makes it clear that not everyone who claims to know Him or perform miracles in His name will enter the kingdom of heaven. Instead, He emphasizes that only true followers who do the will of the Father will be recognized and accepted by Him. Additionally, Jesus teaches about the importance of genuine faith and its connection to accessing Page 1 of 2
BIBL 104 God's power in Mark 11:22-24. He tells his disciples that if they have faith without doubt and believe in what they ask for through prayer, they will receive it. Faith and obedience are prerequisites for experiencing God's supernatural intervention. C. How does your theological principle from this passage in Acts reflect the person and work of Jesus Christ? State and explain at least one way that the theological principle of this passage correlates with something of the person and work of Jesus Christ. Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. Be specific. Give, explain, and cite your supporting passage(s) from Scripture. In Acts 19:11-22, we see that my theological principle that God's power cannot be harnessed or manipulated by those who lack genuine faith and relationship with Him; rather, it is reserved for his true followers who act in accordance with His will. This principle reflects the person and work of Jesus Christ in various ways. One way that this principle correlates with the person and work of Jesus Christ is demonstrated through His life and ministry on earth, where He performed numerous miracles and cast out demons by the authority given to Him by God. In the Gospels, it is evident that Jesus acted in complete harmony with the Father's will (John 5:19) and, therefore, was able to display His divine authority over sickness, death, and evil spirits. When looking at Jesus' life and ministry as a whole, we can see that He was never interested in using His miraculous powers for selfish ambition or public display (Matthew 4:1-11). Rather, His miracles were always meant to bring glory to God and reveal His nature as a loving, compassionate savior (John 17:4). Page 2 of 2
