Passage: Acts 19:11-22
A.
How does this passage from Acts fit within the metanarrative of the Bible? State what type of story you believe this to be (creation, fall, redemption, or new creation) and explain why you believe this to be so? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. It may be good to review chapter 6 in Everyday Bible Study
to recall what each of these four themes are about.
This passage fits the story of redemption and how it is accomplished in the book of Acts. In Acts 19:11-22 it is discovered that Paul has the power to heal others and remove demons with his handkerchiefs and aprons. Once this is discovered by the seven sons of Sceva they try to do the same thing as Paul and become overpowered by the evil spirit during their acts. Once word gets back to the Ephesians they turn to God and away from their magical acts. To show this they burned their magic books and scroll and quit their practices all together. This specifically shows how you can redeem your self with God at any time no matter what you have done through out your life. Paul’s exorcisms and healings in the name of God were also another way to show Christian faith and the redemptive plan that God has. This passage highlights the power that God
has and shows his redemptive plan clearly through the struggles with evil these men went through and their repentance towards God. God always has a bigger plan with his people throughout everything people might go through. B.
How does your theological principle from Acts 19:11-22 fit with the rest of the Scripture?
This principle is the one you have written out in 1-3 sentences in the Interpretation Assignment. If your theological principle is a true Biblical principle, it will be reflected throughout the Scriptures. Where is the theological principle discovered in this New Testament narrative found elsewhere in the Scriptures? Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. Be specific. Give, explain, and cite your supporting
passage(s) from Scripture.
The theological principle from Acts 19:11-12 shows Gods power and what he can do for his people and always allowing them the chance for redemption. The bible discusses God power and the change for redemption in multiple scripture versus. “
Behold, God is exalted in his
power; who is a teacher like him?
Who has prescribed for him his way, or who can say, ‘You have done wrong’?” English Standard Version Bible, 2001, Job 36:22-23). Gods power is unlimited and those who try to mimic his power will suffer the consequences and given the chance to redeem themselves. In this
passage it shows how the Ephesians struggled with the war of good and evil
while trying to mimic Gods power and were overpowered by the evil spirit. After this they began their process of redemption and turned back to God. “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out” English Standard Version Bible, 2001, Acts 3:19). Through out all there is always a chance to repent sins

and be redeemed by God. The theological principle within Acts 19:11-22 can be seen in other themes in the bible highlighting his power, the fight between good and evil, and redemption.
C.
How does your theological principle from this passage in Acts reflect the person and work of Jesus Christ? State and explain at least one way that the theological principle of this passage correlates with something of the person and work of Jesus Christ. Your explanation should be 1 paragraph (150-300 words) in length. Be specific. Give, explain, and cite your supporting passage(s) from Scripture. The theological principle of this passage describing Gods power and redemption reflects Jesus and his work in many ways. Jesus has always had a mission to help sinners in their struggles between good and evil, shown his power in healing diseases and removing evil spirits the same way Paul did for God. In acts Paul works his miracles with God giving him the ability by using his aprons and handkerchiefs to heal diseases and cast out demons. Jesus was one to do this through his miraculous healing in Mark 5:1-17 Jesus casted demons out of a man and casted them into pigs. The demons pleaded with him to not torture them but to instead send them into a herd of pigs. This is just one example of many of Jesus preforming exorcisms along with other miraculous acts. Jesus also used his teaching to help others turn away from sinful acts and turn towards God to gain redemption. This is something that Paul did throughout acts he would preach and share with the Ephesians. The Ephesians would then turn away from sin and quit their practices to turn towards God. The theological principle of Acts 19:11-22 reflects the work of Jesus Christ and what he did for his people. Page 2 of 3
